Disc review: Miley Cyrus – « Something Beautiful »
At the age of 32, Miley Cyrus has become a veteran. « Something Beautiful » is the ninth studio album of the former child star under its own name. After throwing the Disney wig, Cyrus has thus gained a variety of musical excursions within the radio pop frame, of varying quality.
Prior to the new release, which is timely packaged as a « visual album », Cyrus claims to have been inspired by Pink Floyds « The Wall ». I don’t know how it is with that thing, but it says something. Why? Well, just because the ability to look back in music history appears more and more like one of Miley Cyrus great forces as an artist.
The latest album « Endless Summer Vacation » was a fairly uninteresting collection (though better than the total ditch run « Plastic hearts » from 2020). But with one exception, the mega’s « flowers », an effective but screwed version of « I Will Survive ».
The finest moments on « Something Beautiful » operates a bit in the same way. It may be clear sometimes, but the fact is that Miley Cyrus works well as contemporary interpreters of ancient pop expressions. We have the single « End of the World », which in its 70s sound appears as a small tribute to Recently deceased ABBA producer Michael B. Tretow.
On more conventional « every girl you’ve ever loved » Cyrus channels its own Madonna and « Reborn » is properly driven, despite a somewhat trampled text
Towards the end, the botanization will be most successful. The record’s best song, « Walk of Fame », is a fascinating, ruffling pop song with great hit potential, which suggestively accelerates to stylish Bronski Beat choirs. Diminated « pretend you are good » echoes by Springsteen’s « Streets of Philadelphia ». On more conventional « Every girl you’ve ever loved » Cyrus channels its own Madonna and « Reborn » is properly driven, despite a somewhat tramic text, by a dull and club beat.
As a whole, it is a bit uneven, but she actually reaches higher heights than before. I really do not want to proclaim « The Best of Both World »-to refer to Hannah Montana Ledm motif-but Miley Cyrus joins now and then in a fairly skillful way.
Best track: « Walk of Fame »
