During a traffic control Thursday morning in Alsemberg, a driver with a lifelong driving ban has fled. He drove away from control, bumped and then walked away on foot. In addition to his lifelong driving ban, it appears that he also has to go to jail for 18 months.

The check took place on Thursday morning between 8.30 am and 11 am on the Steenweg to Alsemberg. Both the Zennevallei police zone and the Flemish Tax Department (Vlabel) participated in the promotion. The most striking fact was a driver of a light truck trying to avoid control.

The man fled away, but had to leave his car after an accident. He could escape on foot. The driver could be identified after thorough investigation. The reason for his flight was immediately clear: the man does not have a driver’s license, was already imposed a lifelong driving ban and also has to serve a prison sentence of eighteen months for various traffic infringements. The vehicle with which he drove was towed.

Different breaches

Furthermore, five trucks and a dozen passenger cars were checked with the support of the ANPR camera. One trucker has to cough up 2,500 euros due to the lack of a valid inspection of his speed limiter. In addition, three immediate collections were issued due to infringements of the registration obligation and four vehicles were not in order with the technical inspection. Four drivers were caught using their mobile behind the wheel.

There were also serious shortcomings in terms of insurance: three vehicles, including a truck, were towed because they were not insured. Moreover, an additional vehicle was immobilized because the driver was not in possession of a valid driver’s license.

The control was supported by an inspector from the Flemish Tax Department, who supervises, among other things, tax aspects of heavy transport. Here too, various vehicles were removed from traffic and the offenders were urged to pay off their outstanding debts.
