Director of Siemens and his family died in Manhattan helicopter crash
Six people, Spanish tourists and the pilot, were killed in a helicopter crash in the Hudson River near the New Jersey.
Among the victims, according to police sources, is Augustine Escobar, a director of Siemens, along with his family.
According to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tish, the call to emergency aid arrived at 15.17 pm.
– A helicopter crash was reported in the Hudson River near Pierre A in Hoboken, off the coast of New Jersey. Upon arrival, police removed four people, and firefighters two more. Four people were declared dead at the scene and two were taken to hospital – Tish said.
Jersey City Mayor Steven Hulop said two children were taken to hospital, but doctors failed to rescue them.
The helicopter took off from Heliodrome in Lower Manhattan at 2:59 pm, headed south and then turned north along the coast of Manhattan and the Hudson River.
« At 15.08, he reached the George Washington Bridge, then turned around and flew off the coast of New Jersey, where he lost control soon, » Tish said.
The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a joint investigation.
