A resident from Tienen has caused a lot of damage in the Bunsbeek war memorial in the night from Friday to Saturday. In the meantime, the perpetrator was caught, he turned out to have been drinking and is now being prosecuted for fleeing crime and drunkenness.
A local residents suddenly woke up from a hell of noise on Friday night. A driver had missed his turn on the war memorial in Bunsbeek-Dorp. « That local resident immediately called the police. When they arrived, the perpetrator had already fled, » says Mayor Peter Reekmans (Dorpspartij).
« The local resident was able to record the number plate and the damaged vehicle could also be traced on camera images, » Reekmans continues. The Hageland police zone found the director in this way, and the Getevallei police zone notified, because it turned out to be a resident of Tienen.
Driving license withdrawn
« In Tienen, the police then went to the driver’s home. There they found his badly damaged vehicle. The alcohol test showed that he was drunk, » the mayor reports. « The public prosecutor immediately withdrew its driver’s license and the driver is now being prosecuted for drunkenness and flight crime. »
The damage surrounding the war memorial is not less. The posts around the monument were hit firmly and the flagpole is also damaged. « The zone surrounding the war memorial that is damaged is being restored to its costs, » concludes Reekmans.
