Director (27) who ran Gerben (14) and passenger (19) stay longer in prison (Sint-Laureins)

The 14-year-old Gerben was taken to the hospital in the night from Thursday to Friday after a suspected collision by a vehicle in Sint-Laureins. The boy was in an artificial coma for a few days, after a self -proclaimed Vapes seller hit him after a ‘deal’ got out of hand.

The boy has broken eye sockets, a torn lower lip, several fractures in his lower jaw, a bruised right lung and two fractions on his right leg. But on Monday his father confirmed that after three days he woke up from an artificial coma.

Two men were arrested by the police on Saturday. It concerned the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle and the 19-year-old passenger. Both were brought before the investigating judge and arrested on Saturday afternoon. The driver (27) JB is suspected of attempted manslaughter. The passenger (19) has been arrested for guilty absenteeism.

The council chamber in Ghent decided on Tuesday to extend the arrest of both by one month. Lawyer Bram Van Acker who assists the passenger is considering appealing this decision. « I think there are less radical alternatives to the detention as he is only suspected of guilty absenteeism. »
