The driver and passenger of the car who ran the 14-year-old Gerben in Sint-Laureins in the night from Thursday to Friday and so very dangerous for him stay in prison for longer. The council chamber in Ghent decided that on Tuesday.

Two men were arrested by the police on Saturday. It concerned the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle and the 19-year-old passenger. Both were brought before the investigating judge and arrested on Saturday afternoon. The driver (27) JB is suspected of attempted manslaughter. The passenger (19) has been arrested for guilty absenteeism.

The council chamber in Ghent decided on Tuesday to extend the arrest of both by one month. Lawyer Bram Van Acker who assists the passenger is considering appealing this decision. « I think there are less radical alternatives to the detention as he is only suspected of guilty absenteeism. »
