Following the loss of pro -European candidate Nawrocki in Polish presidential elections, Prime Minister Donald Tusk plans to seek vote confidence. « The first test (for my government) will be the vote of confidence that I will soon look for in the lower room, » Tusku said in a television speech. Conservatory Karol Nawrocki’s close victory has politically weakened Tusk’s ruling alliance and the question arises whether his coalition will be able to survive until the end of the end of 2027.
Since the end of 2023, Tusk runs a three -party left -wing coalition. His government’s most important project is to repair the damage caused to the rule of law by the judicial reform implemented by the PIS Party government, in power from 2015 to 2023. Current President Andrzej Duda, who has come from the Pis, has so far blocked the relevant draft laws. Nawrocki is expected to continue in the same way, if not tough. This can divide the coalition and liberate the centrifugal forces.
During the election campaign, Nawrocki spoke constantly critically to the EU. His country will not allow his behavior to be dictated by Brussels, he declared. He presented himself as a defender of traditional Polish values and sought to establish closer links with American conservatives, especially President Donald Trump. As president, Nawrocki can prevent the adoption of the laws proposed by the European Union of Tuski.
A veto -power president
In Poland, the head of state does not only represent the state abroad. The president also affects foreign policy, appoints the head of government and the cabinet, and, in the event of war, is the Commander -in -Chief of the Polish Armed Forces.
