In the final she wore the little brooch on her jacket. It was made of a sunflower cord – a well -known symbol that shows that the wearer may have an invisible disability and therefore may need a little extra understanding.

The program participants did not have to bring bags, and when Marie Watson’s sunflower cord usually hangs there, she found a new way to carry it.

« I was just a little creative and made this little loop brooch, » she says in an interview with Extra Bladet.

Not for her own sake

Marie Watson has previously told publicly about her ADHD and a past characterized by anxiety. But the brooch in the final was not about her own needs. On the contrary.

« I don’t even have such a great need to have the sunflower cord on. I don’t need that extra care or care when I’m out in the real world. For me it’s more about showing my followers, young and adults for that matter that it okay to go with it, » she says.

She says that many still associate the leash with something negative – as if it is only for people who can’t handle themselves. She wants to help change that view.

The brooch was not mentioned in the program, and maybe only a few noticed it. But for Watson, it was important to mark that there is a place in the community for everyone – including those whose challenges cannot be seen with the naked eye.
