Detained in Spain suspected of homicide sought in Portugal

Guardia Civil on Wednesday detained in Pontevedra a man, 40, sought by the Portuguese authorities, and with a warrant of European detention, for the murder of a woman.

The murder occurred on 16 June 2024, when the suspect, from the window of his residence, fired several shots with a firearm that mortally reached a 32 -year -old woman who was circulating on the public road behind the wheel of a vehicle.

“During the investigation it was possible to find out that the day before, June 15, 2024, disacting would have occurred on a street in the Belavista neighborhood of Setúbal, involving several people and firearm shots, causing damage to housing,” says the PJ, in a statement.

The Portuguese authorities believe it was this incident that led to the crime the next day.

« In order to take revenge on the situation that occurred the day before, and knowing that one of the people who fired at the direction of his residence drove a car identical to that of the deadly victim, the suspect fired on him, » the PJ said.

After the murder, the suspect began to assume the identity of a twin brother, “in order to exempt herself as the author of the facts”, and managed to escape to Spain, where she would be yesterday.

After the extradition process, the detainee will be present to the Portuguese authorities, for the application of the coercion measures considered appropriate.
