Despite criticism: Germany is with Israel – the world

Israeli’s EF Diplomacy Gideon Sar probably made a clear sense of Berlin to change something in German-Israeli relations. That Palestinian groups protest the Government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahua – it’s already a common picture in the German capital.

But this time, organizations like « Amnesty International » gathered in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Participants carried transparent with inscriptions « Red Line – International Law », « No war crimes support in Gaza » and « Stop weapons deliveries ».

Because that’s exactly what these days are discussed in almost all meetings between German and Israeli officials: Is the acting of the Israeli army in the war in Gaza still in line with international law?

Long time, the German government considered it – both current, as well as the previous, under the former Chancellor Olaf Solcom (SPD).

Germany still stands with Israel – but criticisms become louder

However, the new chancellor of Friedrich Merc (CDU) has been using a different tone lately. « I no longer understand what the goal of Israel is, » he said last week – and added that the proceedings against the civilian population in Gaza have nothing to do with the real Israel to defend from the terror of Islamist Hamas.

In the ranks of its coalition partner, Social Democrats, the requirements of further delivery of Weapons Israel are suspended. The Foreign Minister Johan Vadeful (CDU) announced that he would seek a weapon delivery check in Gaza. At the same time, Israel promised other types of weapons – for example, for the defense of the Islamist Militia Huti in Jemen, which supports Iran.

In such circumstances, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar arrived in Berlin, where he met with Vadeful. At the beginning of the visit, they visited the Holocaust monument. The memory of the killing of six million European Jews committed by Nazis remains deeply determined by German-Israeli relations. The Defense of Israel’s rights to exist remains the obligation of each German government.

Great concern about the increase in anti-Semitism

At the Holocaust Monument, Gideon Saar warned of more pronounced anti-Semitism in Germany:

« Heart hearts I have to say that the lessons from history are obviously forgotten again. »

According to him, in Germany today – statistically speaking – « Every hour happens an anti-Semitic incident ».

And the German Foreign Minister Johan Vadeful shares that concern. But it is aware that the Israeli policy towards Palestinians are considered a large dose of criticism in the growing part of the German public.

In the latest public opinion polling « ARD-DOJČANGANDREND », only 16 percent of the tested Germans said that Israel can be believed. In October 2024. that number was another 27 percent. Almost two thirds of the examined considered that Israeli action in Gaza – « excessive. »
At all levels: Germany seeks more help for gauze

From government circles, Germany and unambiguously, in all possible channels, is ordered to the Israeli part of the gauze, which was completely blocked in the period, and then rebuilt in a limited extent – now must increase significantly.

And Minister of Foreign Affairs Johan Vadeful confirmed to journalists after talks with Gideon Sarah, but he obviously looked at that Germany still stands with Israel.

Germany will not support the panels of individual EU countries to review, and even terminates an agreement on joining Israel. Vadeful called the friendship between the two countries « unique » and on purpose his Israeli colleague addressed his name.

But then he also looked at the situation in Gaza: « I’m worried about people in Gaza walking miles to get to punks for humanitarian aid. And in the worst, they don’t come back at all, because they were killed. »

One clearly « did not say about the Israeli plan to approve the construction of another 22 settlements in the west coast.

Gideon Sar also confirmed that friendship between Germany and Israel remains firm, but at the same time emphasized:

« As I said, Israel respects international law. Maybe some people thought Germany and Israel could remove – and maybe some were wished. But I believe it’s not true. »

However, whether Israeli action in Gaza is still still in line with international law – the Chancellor Friedrich Merca has publicly suspected last week. Relations between Germany and Israel are currently complicated – or, as Minister Vadeful said, « Times could be easier. »
