Departure commitments in Luxembourg decrease by eight percent
In Luxembourg in the fourth quarter of 2024 295 non-EU citizens were asked to leave the country, a slight decline compared to 320 in the same period 2023, according to the data published on Monday by the European Statistics Authority Eurostat.
A total of 95 third -country nationals were returned according to an order of exit, also a decline compared to 120 people in 2023. These figures are in contrast to the general trend in the European Union, in which the figures increase.
According to the Eurostat data released on Monday, 124,935 non-EU citizens were asked to leave their host country between October and December 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 11.5 percent compared to the previous quarter.
The returns to third countries – people who were returned according to an expulsion order – rose by 3.3 percent to a total of 28,630. This means an increase in returns by 24.3 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.
Most Algerian citizens (11,362), followed by Syrian citizens (8,674) and Moroccans (8,561), were followed by non-EU citizens who were asked to leave the territorial area of an EU country during this period.
Germany extends border controls until mid -September
The data reflects a general trend towards tightening immigration controls in the EU, with countries such as France, Spain and Germany have the highest figures for leave requests. In Germany, more than 15,000 people received such an order, and more than 6,000 were attributed to third countries.
