Renowned director, Leka Bungo, has passed away at the age of 81 after a heart attack.
The bitter news was announced by his family members through social media.
The funeral will take place this Wednesday, June 11, at 4:00 pm, in the Sharra cemetery, where the director will be followed to the last apartment.
Leka Bungo was born on February 28, 1944 in Vlora and remains one of the most prominent figures of Albanian art, with a rich career in theater, film and television. He completed his studies at the Alexander Moisiu School and then attended a course in the Higher Institute of Arts.
During his creative years, he worked as a director at the « Bylis » theater in Fier and later on the State Estrada, where he brought on social themes and marked satire grades. After the 90s, he founded the private theater « Rubairat » near the National Theater, an attempt to bring innovation to the Albanian scene, which nevertheless failed to survive.
In 2002 he emigrated to the United States of America, but continued to remain active in the art world. He is the author of several dramas and film scripts, including « Infideline » and « After the Facade », and is remembered for the role of Bardhyl in the film « A Boy and a Girl » (1990).
