Denmark will convene the US ambassador. Spy accusations

The Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen announced on Wednesday that he would summon the US ambassador to Denmark after Wall Street Journal has published an article stating that Washington intends to intensify his spy activities in Greenland, which Donald Trump is craving.

This article « worries very much because friends do not spy on each other, » said Lars Rasmussen, in Warsaw, where he participated in the Foreign Ministers meeting in the Member States of the European Union.

« This is very serious, so we will convene the (American) ambassador for a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, » he added. « In the hope, of course, this can be denied and, in any case, with the purpose of specifying very clearly what is the position of Denmark in this regard, » said the Danish minister.

According to the WSJ, US intelligence services have received instructions to learn more about the Greenland independence movement and its positions regarding the exploitation of Americans in this large island.

Information services have been invited to identify people in Greenland and Denmark who support the US goals in the Danish autonomous territory, the American daily added.

The tensions have been exacerbated between Washington and Copenhagen since Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that he wants to take control of Greenland, invoking security reasons and refusing to exclude the use of force to conquer it.

Greenland, supported by the Danish government, repeatedly replied that it is not for sale.

According to a recent poll, the vast majority of its 57,000 inhabitants want their independence and do not want an annexation by the United States.
