Demi Moore: « Strengthen these things you may consider defects »

« The Substance » is a violent and emotional exploration of the relationship between aging, career and female nature and, despite the fact that the body horror has no widespread acceptance, has gathered mass acceptance throughout the awards period. The film is nominated for five categories at the Oscars of 2025, including the best female performance for Demi Moore and the best film.

Moore's nomination comes more than forty years after the start of her career as an actress and is considered a favorite in her category because of her wins at the Critics Choice, SAG and Golden Globe awards. Given her complete commitment to the role, is a deserved victory.

The dance scenes – including her unforgettable training in a cover of « Pump It Up! » of DJ Endor – was just as 'brutal'

In an interview with the La Times, Demi Moore hinted to have reached her limits with the role, revealing that in the first week she had a shingle, she had shingles. « And then I lost about 20 pounds, » he said.

The film demanded a full body naked for both protagonists, as Elizabeth studies herself in the mirror before getting the substance and then examines your « new » body when she comes out of Elizabeth's spine.

« The nice thing about the case was that I knew that this was not about highlighting (my body) and the lighting that would make it look more beautiful, but that in fact it would reinforce these things that you might consider defects or that you don't want to see, » Moore told USA Today.

'I'm not a natural talent'

In the meantime, Quaaley has described in detail the painful process she was following to prepare for her flagship dancing scenes.

As he told Entertainment Weekly, he rehearsed the weekend « for a long time » before filming.

In the early days of Quaaley's preparation, Farza watched the actress struggle to understand the choreography.

« I used to say, 'I'm back immediately, I have it!' I went to the toilet and started crying with bending and (after) he said to me, « Do you think we can discuss it a little on our own? » He remembered. « It was really out of my comfort zone. I'm not a natural talent. «

He added that « every cursed day » in the shooting led her to the extremes both physically and emotionally. The dance scenes – including her unforgettable training in a cover of « Pump It Up! » By DJ Endor – it was just as « brutal », according to Quay.
