One of the growing segments of the franchising market, despite its general stagnation, was a food retail. Interest in franchises in the field of trade for a year grew by almost two and a half times. The proposals of the largest retailers form a significant share of interest. The role of franchising for them increased due to a slowdown in the pace of organic mouth.

The demand for franchises in the field of trade in January -March increased 2.4 times a year by the year, calculated in Avito Business 360. In general, in the first quarter, the demand for franchises increased by 1% year by the year. Demand for specialized franchises, according to analysts, grew by 37% year by the year.

According to Infoline, in January -March 2025, 14.2 thousand franchise stores of federal retail chains worked in Russia. A year by the year, the value increased by 3.6%. The highest growth rate of growth showed the network “near” (included in X5), increasing the number of franchising objects by 62% per year, to 1.6 thousand. The managing director of the network Igor Pletnev told Kommersant, who, by May, increased to 2 thousand.

Infoline analysts pay attention to the fact that under the brands of large players are moving, including those who previously worked as non -net stores.

Olga Sumishevskaya, partner of the One Story consulting company, calls the development of franchises an important direction for federal retail: organic business growth no longer provides it with the previous pace of development. The expert believes that the development of this segment will continue in the future for several years, when the number of stores can grow by 12-15% per year.

The interest of entrepreneurs in the franchise of food retail is growing with the saturation of other market segments. For example, all less attractive points of issuing orders (PVZ) look. Last winter, interest in their opening decreased by 14% year by the year in the light of growth in competition and tightening requirements (see « Kommersant » from March 24). Now in demand, mainly multi -format PVZs serving several sites at once, says Yuri Mikhailichenko, executive director of the Russian Association of Franchising.

In the food retail segment, business activity, according to Mrs. Rozhdestvenskaya, is concentrated in a niche of grocery supermarkets and small shops near the house.

Mr. Mikhailichenko does not exclude that the franchise of stores or operators of finished food can be considered as an alternative to entering the catering market.

The factor can be restrained by the development of product franchises, the potentially high cost of starting them can be a factor. According to BusinessMens.ru, investments in the opening of Pyaterochka amount to about 20 million rubles. Of these, 500 thousand rubles – a lingering contribution. For comparison: Investments in the opening of PVZ are 200-250 thousand rubles. Olga Sumishevskaya notes that the payback periods of franchise grocery stores are also growing. If several years ago, investments could be returned for 12-15 months, now it takes 18-24.
