Decreased production at Dacia and Ford Otosan plants in Romania
In February, the production in the Dacia and Ford Otosan plants in Romania registered a significant decrease of almost 10%, according to the data transmitted by the Association of Car Builders in Romania (ACAROM). In total, the two factories in Mioveni and Craiova produced 45,797 cars, a 9.3% decline compared to the same months of last year.
For Dacia, the factory in Mioveni produced 26,417 cars, a larger volume compared to the previous month, but significantly below the maximum capacity of the factory, which can reach 35,000 units in a month. The decrease of -9.66% in February was also influenced by the withdrawal of the Jogger model, relocated to the Morocco plant to make room for the new Bigster model. The production of this model will gradually increase during 2025.
At Ford Otosan, the Craiova factory produced 19,380 vehicles, a slight increase compared to the previous month, but down 8.8% compared to February 2024. The main factor of decrease was the lower demand for the Puma model, whose volume of production decreased significantly. In February, the Craiova plant produced 10,827 units PUMA and 8,553 units from the Courier models (Tourneo and Transit).
In total, the production of vehicles in the two factories reached 85,260 units in the first two months of the year, registering a decrease of 14% compared to the same period of 2024, when about 15,000 additional vehicles were produced.
The decline of production is attributed to the lower demand for some models, but also to the new rules of emissions of the European Union, which influence the management of vehicle with internal combustion
