Decision that contradicts public health policy
« We are very concerned if it becomes a reality to limit car traffic around the Heidmörk.
He says the Forestry Association is very aware of the importance of water protection and considers it important that Veitur and the Forestry Association are in good cooperation on the operation of the Heiðmerkur.
« We have been looking for water protection experts who have suggested that instead of fences of 35 hectares of areas with associated changes in walking paths, we will be examined to close a 50 -year -old hole at Myllulæk and a new cavity drilled in the waterfall, which is much closer to the stream of water.
Heidmark 75 years of age this year
John says that in the public health policy of the City of Reykjavik, the increased outdoor activities of citizens are contributed and that the public’s access to the family car into Heidmörk is in complete contradiction to it.
« It is very important that the public can go to an area of one Heidmörk, which is 75 years old this year and is the largest outdoor area of Reykviks.
He says that Veitur has already limited organized events organized by the Forestry Association, such as Heiðmerkurhlaup that can no longer be held, as well as visits to preschool children and other events.
« Parking parking in the periphery of the Heidmark, which we do not yet know where will be, and close the parking spaces that are in Heidmörk could have the effect on the Christmas market that it ceases, but it is our biggest fundraising. »
John says the Forestry Association is ready to look at traffic restriction, both in the speed restrictions and night traffic.
« Now the Heidmark is open around the clock and we agree to close it at night. There are now no speed restrictions and it could set up traffic signs or some speed restrictions and have some car traffic control instead of quitting it, » he says.
Over the past few months, he has been working on a land development plan for Heiðmerkur, which the Forestry Association has participated in, and says John plans to end this work this summer or autumn.
