Dead wild boars drifted on the Wiecanowskie Lake. It could have been an ASF virus
According to Pomorska.pl, Padły wild They were secured and handed over to the veterinarian who ordered their utilization. The next two dead wild boars were found on Monday, April 28, on the beach in Chałupska. A specialist company took care of their removal.
Why did wild boars drift around the lake?
It is not known how animals were in the lake or what was the cause of their death. One of the possible scenarios is infection African swine fever virus (ASF), dangerous for both wild boars and pigs. The samples were sent for testing.
What is ASF?
The African swine fever (ASF) is an infectious and contagious viral disease that applies only to domestic pigs and wild boars. The ASF virus does not pose a threat to people or other animal species – We can read on the government’s GOV.pl website.
Currently, the only effective method of combating ASF is the administrative effect consisting in the liquidation and utilization of sick animals and those suspected of infection.
The herd infection occurs only through the mechanical introduction of the virus – ASF does not move by air, as opposed to many other diseases.
ASF spreads mainly through the unconscious actions of people and the contact of pigs with infected boars. The disease does not move by air – the virus goes to the herd only through mechanical transfer, e.g. on equipment, clothing or through contaminated feed.
