DBR completed the investigation into the commander of the 211st brigade who silenced torture over the military

The pre-trial investigation in the case of the commander of the 211st Ponton-Brigade of Support of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Berezhnyuk, who is suspected of inaction about the facts of abuse and torture over subordinates.

Details: According to the investigation, by February until July 2024, the commander knew for sure about the ill -treatment of one of the officers – the senior lieutenant who was systematically beat, humiliated and tortured soldiers. Nevertheless, the commander has not taken any measures to stop the violence.

Details: According to investigators, in fact the commander became an accomplice to criminal inaction, allowing to continue torture.

The DBR states that such actions not only violate the law, but also create a danger to the internal discipline of the Armed Forces during the martial law.

The commander is charged with inaction of military power in the conditions of martial law (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He and his defenders have already opened the proceedings for familiarization. After that, the indictment will be sent to court.

At this time, former commander of the 211 pontous brigade Oleg Berezhnyuk is in custody.

Prehistory:

• On December 16, 2024, Ukrainian Pravda published an investigation into abuse of military, extortion and corruption in the 211st Pontoon-brick brigade of the Armed Forces.
• December 17 DBR staff started investigating criminal proceedings on the identification of possible facts of use by officials 211 Ponton-brigade of non-statutory measures of influence and violence to subordinates. The commander of this part, Oleg Barezhnyuk, was informed about suspicion of abuse of office.
• On December 19, the Ternopil Court sent detractor with the possibility of making a bail in the amount of 908 400 UAH. The next day he made a defined pledge and came out of custody.
• The employees of the State Bureau of Investigation on December 29 detained and reported suspicion In the inaction of the military power, a combrig, who did not respond to the facts of bullying from subordinate servicemen.
• On December 30, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv sent detacke pledge of over 12 million UAH.
