David Popovici, a heavy decision
The Olympic champion David Popovici gave up the final of the 100 -meter free sample, on Saturday, at the National Swimming Championships in the 50 m basin, hosted by the Sports Complex in Otopeni, due to a medical problem.
He had been the fastest in the series, with a time of 47 sec 30/100.
« Today, I should have competed in the 100 m free final, one of my favorites … But unfortunately, the back pain did not allow me to enter the basin. It was a difficult, but necessary decision. Sometimes, the fastest thing you can do as a sportsman is to know when to say ‘Stop’, I have to take a long time. I did not want to disappoint the children who came to see me, so I spent a few moments with them.
He won two titles at national, 50 m free and 200 m free.
Patrick Sebastian Dinu (CSM Constanța) won the champion title, after being registered in the final with a time of 48 sec 70/100.
CS Dinamo obtained three national titles on Saturday, through Daria Măriuca Silișteanu (50 m female back), Daria Asaftei (100 m female bras) and Rebeca Jasmine Veress (400 m mixed).
CSA Steaua won two titles, through Rebecca Aimee Diaconescu (100 m free) and Robert Andrei Badea (400 m mixed).
