David Berg will be the new Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the organization that represents more than 70 million scouts and guides in 170 countries. The 45-year-old Belgian becomes the eleventh CEO of the movement, who promotes and guarantees the interests of world scouting. Scouts and Gidsen Vlaanderen reports this on Tuesday.

Berg, born in Antwerp and living in Ghent for more than 20 years, has more than 20 years of experience as a manager in managing strategic growth, administrative reforms and organizational transformation. From 2006 to 2010 he was federal responsible for FOS – Open Scouting. For the past ten years, he held managers within the World Scout Bureau.

Berg takes on his role as Secretary General with immediate effect at the World Scout Bureau, international secretariat in the Malaysian Kuala Lumpur. « I am honored that I can take on this new role to continue to serve the scouting movement that has formed my own values ​​and still rests young people in every corner of the world with the skills to be ready for life, » the Belgian responds.

Berg wants the scout movement to continue to develop. « This is possible by attracting and supporting our volunteers in new ways, by strengthening the impact of our educational programs, by anchoring safety in everything we do and by achieving and addressing new communities with Scouting, » the Belgian emphasizes.

Together with World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (Wagggs), WOSM represents more than 70 million scouts and guides in 170 countries. One of the most famous initiatives in this area is the four -yearly world jamboree. Numerous conferences, exchanges and supporting programs also make the umbrella organizations to active players who look after Scouting’s pedagogy worldwide.
