The Stabenfest in Nördlingen looks back on over 600 years of history and is one of the oldest children’s festivals in Germany. Around 2,000 children move festively dressed and singing through the historic old town towards Kaiserwiese.

The move is the central program item of the festival and attracts numerous visitors from the region every year. On the Kaiserwiese, the staff festival is transformed into a family festival with children’s dances, games and a small amusement park. There is also a beer tent and a beer garden.

For the first time, a children’s ferris wheel will be set up at the Stabfest. With a height of around 17 meters, it is a smaller variant of the large ferris wheel that can be seen every two years at the Nördlinger Mess. The organizers want to test how this new offer is received by visitors. In addition to the Ferris wheel, proven rides are also part of the program: These include the car scooter, various children’s carousels, a so -called chain pilot and the « windshield wiper ». The offer is supplemented by classic fairs such as shooting stalls, duck fishing, confectionery stands, ice cream sales and other booths.

The Stabenfest 2025 will take place in Nördlingen from May 9th to 12th. The firm operation with amusement park and marquee starts on Friday, May 9th, and runs continuously up to and including Stabenmontag, May 12, 2025. The festival is open all day every day. The traditional move of the school children takes place on Monday morning.

Moving at the 2025 Stabfest: So is the process

On Monday, May 12, 2025, the traditional Stabenfest parade begins at 9.30 a.m., the starting point is the parking lot of the old gym. From there, the train leads through the Reimlinger Tor to the old town of Nördlingen. The goal is first the marketplace where the participating school children offer the city council their homage. This symbolic act has been an integral part of the festival for centuries.

Afterwards the train moves on to the Kaiserwiese, formerly known as « Rich-Wies ». This place has a long history. The imperial district court met here in 1361. On the Kaiserwiese, the move ends with a common music piece of all chapels involved. The train is led by the Nördlingen boy chapel. Girls in festive clothes wear flower wreaths, boys show themselves in a huge costume with colorful flags. Many children have the typical “TabeGucker” – paper bags filled with sweets. After the musical degree on the Kaiserwiese, the afternoon program begins with children’s actions and games, organized by the Maria Stern specialist academy.

Tickets: Is admission for the Nördlingen Stabfest Free?

Visiting the staff festival is free of charge. No admission is collected for access to the festival site, the move and the supporting program.
