Data: Trump wants to pay 100,000 per Greenlander
White House’s Security Council has met several times and discussed how the plan should be able to become a reality, writes New York Times. A number of different departments are stated to be connected.
Instead of a military operation, the Council puts its hope for a comprehensive public relations campaign to convince Greenland’s nearly 57,000 inhabitants to want to become part of the United States. Among other things, they have talked about using campaigns on social media and ads to charm the otherwise critical opinion.
From being a Danish colony, Greenland in the 1950s became an autonomous part of Denmark. Since then, you have expanded their self -government. However, the financial support from Copenhagen remains important. It constitutes about half of the self -government’s public income.
As part of The plan now sees Trump’s employees at various alternatives to replace the Danish grant, which last year amounted to approximately SEK 6 billion. Among other things, an annual payment of SEK 100,000 per Greenlander is considered.
One source of Washington Post says that one would give significantly larger sums than Denmark does.
Some Trump employees are of the opinion that at least part of the sum could be financed by extracting the deposits that exist on the island, according to the New York Times sources. According to the UN, Greenland has plenty of rare earth metals, but there is still no proper mining and other important infrastructure to extract them.
The wealth is highest Relevant to Trump’s ambition to take over Greenland.
– It’s about important minerals. This is about natural resources, said Trump’s security adviser Mike Waltz in a fox interview earlier this year.
Donald Trump’s interest in Greenland is nothing new. Already in his last presidential period he talked openly about seizing the island. At the same time, Denmark and Greenland’s respective governments have repeatedly rejected the Americans.
