Data attack against Altaposten means that the paper newspaper does not come out: – It is the first time in 51 years that it happens

– This is the first time in the 51 years I have worked here, that the paper edition will not come out.

Typographer Trond Romsdal and the other employees of Altaposten met on Tuesday morning to work, unaware that a data attack had knocked out one of the servers at the local newspaper. As a result, paper newspaper production and production of the EAVIS edition was affected.

When the attack was found, other systems were shut down for safety reasons, which meant that Radio Alta’s broadcast had to be completed.

The Sami newspaper also rejects the attack, and had to loop its paper edition on Tuesday.

– Initially, the data attack means that it is not possible to produce paper newspaper for Tuesday. We strongly apologize for that, says responsible editor Rolf Edmund.

IT experts both locally and externally have been on the side of the morning and have done their utmost to limit the effects of the attack.

Editor Lund says the case is being reported to the police and routinely notified to the Data Inspectorate.

So far, everything indicates that the attack has limited local consequences. Because even though paper newspaper production was hit, the newspapers are as usual available online.

– We had to cancel the broadcast for Radio Alta, but as it looks now it will be fine with tonight’s bingo broadcast.

Altaposten.no works as normal.

– Because of the problems with the paper newspaper, most cases that are posted today will be free, says Lund.
