Dark Taritas: Prayers in squares directly influence the increase in violence against women
Anka Mrak Taritaš (Voice) said on Tuesday that Croatia is among the EU Member States in third place in number of femicides in relation to the population, rating and that the petitioners in the squares are seriously threatened by the civilization norms that women have long won and directly influence the increase in violence against women.
« After the terrible murder of a young woman in Osijek, on September 2, 2023, on the day we mark the day of fighting violence against women, dozens of women lost their lives, » Mrak Taritas said during the free parliamentary speeches of the HSS, GLAS Club, GLAS, DOSIP.
She also warned that these black numbers grow relentlessly, and only in the last few days two women had been killed and the third had been fighting for life. All three were suffering from their loved ones – in two cases they were partners, and once a son.
She also warned that the killed women were most often exposed to violence long before, they were repeatedly reported by hoping and expecting protection against the abuser, but they did not receive it.
« The judgments, the ban on approaching, everything is worth nothing together. The abusers and the killers walk freely until they kill their victim. And this is today a reality for victims of violence in Croatia. Institutions that should protect them at any level and further traumatize the victims, » she said.
Mrak Taritas also brought the fact that last year less than ten percent of family abusers received a prison sentence, and some even went with a fine.
She also expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s attitude towards violence against women, saying that the worst example of amendment to the Criminal Code, the so -called « Lex AP », in which the HDZ has suffered their attempts to silence and persecute journalists and whistleblowers and femicide as a criminal offense.
She also warned that every month in city squares we also watch the so -called prayers, who are increasingly aggressive in their intentions to subjugate women. So recently, they showed these intentions in a particularly terrible way when they shot the rose in Split, which the activists left for the murdered woman, she recalled.
« Prayers in squares are seriously threatened with civilizational standards that women have long won. And directly affect the increase in violence against women, » she said.
Ivica Kukavica (homeland movement) responded to this, saying that people who pray to God in the squares cannot be associated with violence.
« That’s one notorious falsehood, » he said. He believes that these are people who promote our Catholic faith and values, and what Croatia originated on, which is « our Croatian Catholic Church ».
