Danish families can save 21,000 kroner a year

The average savings for households investing in an electric car and a heat pump is DKK 21,000 a year.

The savings are estimated to increase to DKK 27,000 a year in 2035, mainly because the difference between the gasoline price and the price of green power is expected to be greater during the period.

The benefit of choosing electric is greater in some parts of the country than in others. If you live in rural areas, you drive everything else just more kilometers by car than if you live in the big cities. Thus, the savings are greater.

« Families with lower revenue will find that they are getting a proportionate greater gain as the cost of energy is filling more in the budget. For some families, it is equivalent to getting almost 10 percent more to themselves. It’s really something they will be able to feel, » says Kristian Jensen.

Most consumers are aware that the next car will run on electricity. Sales of electric cars are rising from month to month, and most recently the government has upgraded the expected number of electric cars by 2030 to 1.4 million.

Two -thirds of all households have district heating, and for them a heat pump will often not be relevant. But 15 percent of all households have continued a natural gas or oil stove.

« There are still too many households that replace their natural gas stove with a new guy. It seems cheaper because the immediate investment is lower, but you get tied to an ineffective and more expensive technology for many years into the future. The investment in a heat pump is earned home in 5-7 years, » notes Kristian Jensen

Green Power Denmark recommends politicians that they continue to push the transport sector in a green direction so that both passenger cars and trucks become electric. And it is important that they phase out the use of gas and oil to heat the homes as soon as possible.

The government should present a green 20-year plan that sets the direction. And the government should ensure that by 2035 we get 60 percent of the energy we use in Denmark from green electricity.

« It’s cheaper for consumers, and it makes Denmark far more robust and safe. What are we waiting for? » Asks Kristian Jensen.
