Danish Anna (21) is the winner of the European Meeuwens Shrants Championship: « A lot of practiced » (inland)
Anna Brynald (21) from the Danish Solrød Strand won the European Meeuwens Shrants on Sunday. Her seagull price sounded best to the jury. « I am very happy with the title, » Kirde Anna.
Meeuwen are sometimes pampered, but in café de Lost Gernoare in Adinkerke they embrace the birds with a lot of love and respect. That was clearly noticeable during the fifth European Championship Meeuwens Shrants. About thirty candidates from all kinds of plumage from ten different countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and of course Belgium, competed against each other.
The assignment was simple: boat after the sound and behavior of a seagull. A professional jury of seagull experts rated the singing qualities of the participants. The juniors (-16) were the first to open their throat. Then it was up to the adults to ravage the eardrums of those present. Finally, it was the turn of the seagull colonies, groups of two to five participants.
All participants and spectators closed the European Championship with a joint seagull shout for peace – or a Scream for Peace.

Anna Brynald’s chatter from Denmark was the most charmed in the adult category. « I came here especially for the championship with the ambition to win, » says Anna. « I have practiced a lot and am therefore very happy. I don’t know if I will participate again next year. It is quite expensive to come from Denmark to Belgium. But it was very pleasant. »
Places of honor for Belgium
Among the youth, James Wallace Cooper (11) from Chesterfield, England, was the best seagullimitator. He thereby succeeds himself. « It was very nice, » he says. « See you next year. »
A group of Italians won the title of best seagull colony. The winners all received a medal and a basket full of goodies home. The three main prizes went abroad. But a lot of Belgians also participated. For example, the Zwammadams Sofie, Karen, Inge, Haïke and Patricia from Ostend won second place in the colony category. The bronze went there to Team Anzegem. µ
Among the young people there was silver for Cyriel Bouckaert from Roeselare, and with the adults also silver for Chantal Duchateau from Leopoldsburg.
