Danger was created on the collision of two ships

There was a danger of the collision of the Westman Islands ferry Herjólf and the cruise ship Seabourn Venture in August last year when the cruise ship was on the way out of the harbor in the Westman Islands and Herjólfur to sail in there.

Seabourn Venture Venture’s emergency stops, but Herjólf’s captain slowed down and bent into Klettsvík to avert a collision.

The events are described in the Protocol of the Transport Accident Research Committee. It states that Herjólfur had a sick passengers on board and lay on him under medical hands and therefore failed to announce the arrival of Herjólf to the harbor at Faxasker as usual. The departure of the cruise ship was also delayed by 8 minutes.

When the pilot aboard Seabourn Venture became at Herjólf, he gave instructions to stop the ship’s voyage, but its captain had already started to stop the ship. The captain of Herjólf put machines on a full journey back. After communicating with the portor, the captain of Herjólf sailed north for Seabourn Venture into Klettsvík, but the passenger ship had been stopped and was kept with hardware.

At the request of the Investigation Committee, the Bahamas’ flag state, the Bahamas, took a report of all the captains who were on the platform when the incident occurred. They were unanimous about the scenario, but they stood for a period of time in the opinion that Herjólfur would bend on the backboard and turn around. Seaborn Venture’s captain stated that the communication of the portor and the captain of Herjólf took place in Icelandic that the captains of Seaborn Venture did not understand. It took time to get the right messages to the captains of what was happening.

The committee’s booking states that Herjólf’s company subsequently urged its captains to take care to report to Faxasker on the way to port in the Westman Islands and bring signs of it into the ship’s sailing computer to prevent it from being lost. The same applies to portmakers who are guiding ships to port. It is considered by the Port Authority that all vessels will notify themselves in the same place because of the narrow seal.

In addition, the Westman Islands were urged for ports to report a ship that they are guiding from the dock as well as being in close contact with Herjólf’s captains while guiding ships at that time.
