Danes forget important routine in the summer: It can cost dearly

Summer has begun, the heat is coming and the Danes quickly forget the electricity bill in the good summer mood.

The circulation pump ensures that hot water from the heating system circulates to the radiators. But in many homes, the pump runs throughout the summer without purpose, and it costs both power and wear.

It writes NRGi in one press release

Bo Halm Andersen, energy consultant and construction expert at NRGi, often finds that homeowners forget the pump when they think they have closed the heat.

« It is equivalent to leaving the car at idle all summer. It costs power and wears unnecessarily – and it can all be avoided with the push of a button, » he explains.

A quick summer check can provide both energy savings and longer life with the technique. According to SparEnergi, 2-3 % of the annual heat consumption can be saved, up to DKK 800 by turning off the heating system and the circulation pump from May to October.

Bo Halm Andersen recommends that summer closure be a regular routine in the Danish homes.

He also calls for moving radiators’ thermostats during the summer period.

« Although the heat is off, you should turn the thermostat valves from completely closed to completely open and back again – preferably a few times during the summer. It prevents the valves from getting stuck. »

The checklist for summer closure is simple:
  1. Close the heating system or put it on summer operation

  2. Turn off the circulation pump

  3. Turn the radiators’ thermostats from closed to open and back a few times over the summer

A little effort that can save both money and trouble when the firing season returns.
