President Nicușor Dan said on Tuesday that we have a problem with the great tax evasion and that institutions, including secret services, are needed, to be concerned about this issue, showing that it is necessary if the national defense strategy should be modified in this regard.

He was asked if he would still contract specialists on IT to see what happened in the presidential elections of 2024, as stated in the election campaign, for a discussion in the Supreme Defense Council of the country.

« It is not the first, the first emergency now. The emergencies are the deficit and the government. Immediately after. I am very interested in this topic. What did I say? I said we have a big problem with the great tax evasion and it is necessary for institutions, including services, to be concerned about this issue and it is a discussion whether or not it is necessary to change this.

On Monday, President Nicușor Dan said that the effects of fighting the great tax evasion will be seen next year, with efforts in this direction.

« Regarding the great tax evasion, we had a discussion with the interim prime minister last night, Mr. Predoiu, and said that he verifies if we need to make a modification in such a way as to focus more state forces on combating this phenomenon, » Nicușor Dan said in a press conference.

He referred to the possible effects of combating tax evasion.

« We are now in a situation where we have to send the financial market, investors some measures for the second half of 2025. Combating the big evasion-I am optimistic that we will do it, but its effects will be seen in 2026, » said the president.

According to official sources, the Supreme Council of Defense of the country will be convened in June, to include the fight against the great tax evasion in the National Defense Strategy.
