Daimler Truck and Volvo cooperate with software
The commercial vehicle manufacturers Daimler Truck and Volvo work together at software. They founded a joint venture called Coretura. In the future, a common software-defined vehicle platform and a truck operating system will develop, as the two companies in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Gothenburg announced. The cooperation had been announced last year.
Daimler-Truck boss Karin Radström said that a clear strategic focus was on software development for commercial vehicles. Volvo CEO Martin Lundstedt said that the joint venture underlines the commitment not only to advance the products, but also to pave the way for sustainable and intelligent transport solutions.
The German and the Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturers emphasized at the same time that both companies remained competitors and would continue to rely on a completely independent product and service offer, including the respective digital solutions. Daimler Truck and Volvo work together in the production and development of fuel cells. The new company Coretura initially has 50 employees and is based in Gothenburg. It is managed by Volvo manager Johan Lunden.
