Dacian treasure discovered with metal detectors

The City Hall of Breaza announced on Thursday that a Dacian treasure was discovered on the territory of the commune, composed of six port ornaments, consisting of a silver bracelet, three fibulars, a neck chain and a belt belt, the value of the discovery being confirmed by the Mureș County Museum.

‘On the territory of our commune were discovered Dacian treasure objects, a valuable discovery that was confirmed by the Mureș County Museum. These historical artifacts remind us of the cultural heritage and the importance of our region in the history of Dacia. This discovery honors us and encourages us to protect and proudly promote our heritage, « the Breaza City Hall on Facebook announced on Thursday.

The local administration in Breaza also presented a document from which it appears that, in the spring of this year, Moldovan Dionisie-Aurel together with Zăhan Sebastian-Adrian discovered, with the help of metal detectors, a Dacian silver treasure on the commune.

‘The pieces were handed over, according to the law, to the state authorities, being currently in the administration of the Mureș County Museum. The treasure represents a set of port ornaments and is composed of six pieces, as follows: a bracelet made of circular silver bar having slightly wide and decorated ends with plant motifs; Two fibers with knots, pair, each with an elongated and rhombic plate towards the spring, without decoration; A smaller size fibula, with four knots; A chain for the neck, finished with a link with the heads that are caught three nail pendants; A belt of belt consisting of alternative oval plates with a number of links. Also, this belt probably belongs to a rectangular plate decorated with a series of solar motifs. Worn by a prominent member of the Dacian aristocracy on different special occasions, but hard to say if it is a man or a woman, the treasure, with a weight of about 550 grams, was an important symbol of the social status of the holder ‘, the representatives of the Mureș County Museum, quoted in the post of Breaza, indicated.

The submission of this treasure in the ground, is shown in the document, can be interpreted as an offering to an unknown deity or just hiding in a difficult time in a character’s life.

‘His presence on the territory of Breaza commune, Mureș county, attests to the existence of a Dacian dwelling in the area, housing that I had so far no other data. We hope that through the land research from the following period, the settlement or even the Dacian fortification in the area can be identified. The treasure is to be documented, studied, published and exhibited in the exhibitions of the Mureș County Museum ‘, the source mentioned
