This was announced by the Liberal Conservative Prime Minister Petr Fiala after a cabinet meeting.

He justified the step with the war in Ukraine, less than 400 kilometers away and changes in the international order. « We have to be ready to defend ourselves, » emphasized Fiala.

The Czech Republic has been a member of NATO since 1999. The Central European country, with almost eleven million inhabitants, has recently launched several large procurement projects.
