Customs reveals considerable violations in tobacco shops

In a targeted control campaign on April 18, the Luxembourg customs and consumption tax administration uncovered several violations of applicable laws. In three sales outlets in Luxembourg city, considerable amounts of non-compliant tobacco and nicotine products as well as alcoholic beverages were ensured. The control is part of the continued commitment of the authorities against illegal trade in such products.

The balance sheet of the campaign is clear: over 90 liters of e-liquids, six kilos of nicotine bags, five kilos of chewing tobacco, a kilo shisha tobacco, 100 grams of snuff and 37 liters of alcopops were confiscated. In one of the business, the required operating license was also missing – a procedure was also initiated here.

Almost 13,000 euros tax damage

Leavings are imposed and almost 13,000 euros in the evaded consumer taxes are collected. The authorities emphasize that such measures are necessary to protect consumers and strengthen legal trade.

In the corresponding announcement, the customs administration again points out that the sale of products with nicotine and tobacco is subject to strict regulations and is only permitted with appropriate approval. Violations can lead to sensitive punishments – up to the confiscation of goods and equipment used.
