Customs Pass has been empowered
« Finding themselves as artists in town has been empowering for our people. Instead of thinking and talking about their illness, it has been creating, finding and enjoying it. To my knowledge, it was a key factor to move the project out of the hospital and try to build a bridge between people. See a great difference in our people after it has been involved in a clutch. »
This is stated by Hlynur Jónasson, project manager in the mental hospital of Landspítali and the manager of the project Kunnstpása, who has the role of linking mental rehabilitation to creative articles.
And when the courses end, everyone usually asks: « What next? »
Customs passes are new to the needle. The first winter has not passed but nevertheless 40 people have already participated. « It tells its story, » says Hlynur. « If you come back after a year and ask the answer will probably be: over a hundred people. »
According to Hlyn, some participants have a background in the arts, others not. Then many have waited for opportunities of this kind, as courses in art can be expensive and not always easy to find. « Now that people are coming in front of the door, hopefully some spark will come and it continues on the same path, as it increases both confidence and strengthens the self -image. It has been very successful to take the project out of the hospital and our people agree that it feels very good in this environment. »
Incredibly beautiful interface
He says quite a bit of talent when it has emerged, which there is a good reason to continue. « Many in this 40 -person group have already burst out and hopefully there is something more. I can say that the mentors agree with me. More likely than the other is that we underestimate the talents, as people are quickly coming out of the shell. »
Instructors in the courses include Nina Dögg Filippusdóttir actress, Steinunni Camilla Sigurðardóttir musician and Thorgrím Þráinsson writer. « Their attitude has been incredibly beautiful and they have been very positive about the project. Thus, Nína Dögg recently told me that we had to continue this. Other things would not be possible. This is generally the case with the theater staff, it has supported the project and the compliment.
Hlyn is discussed in more detail and discussed in the Sunday newspaper Morgunbladid.
