Customs in Plovdiv have a new boss, the recent remains finally in custody
The Sofia Court of Appeal was permanently arrested in custody former Director of Customs in Plovdiv, Miroslav Belyashki, BTA reported. He was arrested on April 30 by dozens of severely armed and masked police officers at his workplace at an action by the Commission for Corruption.
Some of the court’s reasoning is related to the high public danger of the act. Despite the pure judicial background of Belyashki, according to the court, there was a real danger of committing a crime, BBC notes.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the arrest was linked to a cigarette truck from Georgia who entered Bulgaria through the border crossing of the « Captain Andreevo » and which was to reach the Netherlands. The state prosecution claims that Belyashki was traveling to the point without being posted, with the intention of freeing the truck from the inspection and to ensure the conservation of the load to Vidin through the territory of the country.

Meanwhile, while looking at Belyashki’s case for a new customs director, longtime customs officer Rumen Babov was appointed Chief of Customs in Plovdiv, BNT reported.
Babov has been working in the customs system for almost 30 years. He has been fired several times, but then reinstated to work again. He was last an employee of the Department of Following Control of the Customs in Plovdiv.
