Customers’ data may have ended up with hackers

There has been a breach of data security at sports giant Adidas, who is now struggling with the consequences of an episode that has put customers’ confidence into play.

An unauthorized player has gained access to certain consumer information through a third -party customer service provider. It confirms the company in a statement that was released on Friday.

It writes Reuters

The fracture does not include sensitive data such as passwords or credit card information, but according to Adidas primarily turns about contact information from consumers who have previously approached their customer service.

However, the German clothing giant has not concealed that the incident is taken very seriously.

« We immediately took steps to contain the incident and initiated a comprehensive study in collaboration with leading experts in information security, » the company said. The work of clarifying how the breach has happened and which customers it specifically relates is in full swing.

Adidas has also stated that they have begun to inform the consumers who are potentially affected by the security breach.

This is done in an attempt to reduce the damage and maintain transparency in a case that has quickly gained attention internationally.

The case again raises the question of how vulnerable global brands are against attacks when large parts of their operations, especially customer service, are outsourced to third parties.

Adidas has not yet stated what external actor is involved or how many customers are exactly affected. So far, the company is trying to keep the tab high and show action in meeting the threat to users’ data.
