Bijnens, a Limburg entrepreneur, has been CEO of ICT company Cegeka since 2019. One of the daughters of that group is Citymesh, which launched the fourth telecom player on the Belgian market in a joint venture with the Romanian Digi at the end of last year. « Digi is now becoming a competitor, » says the future CEO about that.
Bijnens must determine a new strategic direction and further expand the Belgian gigabit network. The challenges in times of AI are explicitly mentioned. « If the world changes, you have to set new accents, » said Bijnens, who was also head of the Limburg investment company LRM for a while.
De Clerck explained that several candidates were overflowing, but it soon became clear that Bijnens is the best choice. With the arrival of a Dutch -speaking CEO, the chairman will soon have to be succeeded by a French -speaking person. « We are looking for the best CEO, the chairman must follow, » says De Clerck.
Although the contract of former CEO Guillaume Boutin was extended by six years last summer and he received storage, the Frenchman announced his departure from Proximus. Boutin moved to the British Vodafone last month.
A headhunter went looking for a new CEO. In the meantime, since mid -April, the Flemish Jan Van Acoleyen was CEO interim basis of the group. The search for a new CEO for the International Tak Proximus Global is still ongoing.
Cegeka also has to look for a new CEO due to the switch from Bijnens. The formal search has already started, the company says in a press release. During the interim period, Annelore Buijs, Bart Watteeuw and Stephan Daems will act as a co-CEOs, with Stephan Daems as chairman.
Minister of Government Companies Vanessa Matz thinks it is a good thing that « Proximus has appointed a CEO after a few months of interim board to lead the company in a rapidly changing telecommunications market, » she says in a response. « A stable and dynamic management is essential to stable the mass roll-out of fiber optics and the large investments that this requires in the right direction. With sound experience in the IT sector and as a manager in various companies, Stijn Bijnens has all the qualities to meet the many challenges. »
