Current and former minister got into a dispute which of the two ordered icons

Current Minister of the Interior Daniel Mitov (GERB) and his predecessor Boyko Rashkov, who held the post in 2021 and 2022 (« We continue the change »), entered into a part -time dispute over whether the ministry had ordered icons for a traffic safety campaign.

Today, Mitov tried to blur his responsibility by announcing to the media that such a practice was introduced during the Petkov cabinet when the minister was Boyko Rashkov.

« On April 26, 2022, the signature of Boyko Rashkov personally approved the purchase of icons for a car for the Ascension of the Lord, or Savior, and of small iconic magnet. The purchase of these items was later signed by the successor of Boyko Rashkov – Ivan Demerdzhiev, » the minister said.

« The iconoclasts, the Burbors were in their own trap. I look at them with their finger and played a performance. But the drama is cheap and the actors are amateurs and their script is from last term. First they create the problem and then brand it and finally take a picture on Facebook, » he added.

Hours later, Rashkov called the media to answer that « the manipulation is short-legs. »

He said that in his time in the political cabinet, such a topic had not been discussed, and he himself did not conclude contracts for such supplies.

He learned that there was a coordination procedure at the initiative of the Guarantee Fund – an institution under the Insurance Act, in which the insurance companies are members and which guarantees the right of compensation for the victims of the crashes. The Fund by law is obliged to spend 5% of its budget on traffic safety activities and formally coordinate its initiatives with the Ministry of Interior and the Fiscal Supervision Commission, Rashkov reminded. He stressed that the ministry itself and another state institution did not spend money on icons.

Rashkov urged Mitov to show the documents, and a statement from the Interior Minister is forthcoming.
