Criticism about participating Carsten Stahl in anti-violence conference

At the end of February there was a conference with the title « School Youth Work-an educational offer between school and leisure », organized by the Center Psycho-Social et d’Accompagnement Scolaires (CEPAS). Carsten Stahl, who is known for his commitment and programs against bullying at schools, was invited to the conference. At the same time, Carsten Stahl is criticized for his confrontational, sometimes drastic methods and the lack of scientific foundation of his programs.

Djuna Bernard (Déi Gréng) sees Stahl’s participation in the conference critically and wanted to know from Education Minister Claude Meisch (DP) why he was invited to the event.

Meisch explains that the goal of the conference was to strengthen the work of social pedagogical specialists at Luxembourg schools and to give them a new pedagogical tool, a so -called guideline, which was developed together with 45 schools. The guidelines offer recommendations « in order to structure socio-e-eDucative work in secondary schools and to strengthen their effectiveness ».

Carsten Stahl was invited as an expert in low -threshold work with young people in the context of school bullying to report on his experiences and stimulate the discussion. The aim was to discuss the topic of bullying and violence openly and objectively.

Meisch admits criticism of steel

Stahl presented his approach to bullying prevention, based on respect, tolerance and direct communication with the young people. It is about making the consequences of bullying clear to the students in a simple and direct way.

Meisch admits that there is criticism of steel and that it has been taken into account. However, he thinks that it was not a question of taking over his methods, but stimulating a debate about possible methods of intervention.

Since 2022, the Ministry has been accompanying a pilot project to combat all forms of violence that is carried out in cooperation with various secondary schools. « This project is based on practices and experiences from other countries and is in its last evaluation year with the aim of finalizing a national action plan against violence in schools for the school year 2026/2027, » said the minister.
