Criminal charges against 10 police officers took travel expenses for days when they did not travel to the workplace

The Department of Internal Control at the Ministry of Interior has filed criminal charges against 10 police officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit. Officials are suspected of abuse of power and authority, damaging the Ministry of Interior’s budget by 1,098,120 denars. They received money for travel expenses for days when they did not travel to the workplace in Skopje. A proposal for disciplinary proceedings will be filed against them.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards at the Ministry of Interior, to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption – Specialized Section of Criminal offenses committed by police. IG, DD, DD, NM, SS, ZT. and DT, all employees of the Rapid Deployment Unit, on grounds of suspicion of committing a crime of « abuse of power and authority » punishable under Article 353 of the Criminal Code.

– Reportedly, with the intention of obtaining illegal property benefits, using the right to compensate for travel expenses, because they were guided by a place of residence outside Skopje, abusing their official position in a manner that they received cash from the Ministry of Interior for days in Skopje, 17.09.2024 damaged the budget of the Ministry of Interior in the total amount of 1,098,120 denars- reads the statement from the Ministry of Interior.

They add that the Department of Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards for the reported police officers will also submit a proposal for initiation of a disciplinary liability procedure.
