Crime has no ethnic base
Yesterday, 16 mayors of southeastern Slovenia and Posavje supported the mayor of Sam Pogorelca, who was attacked by the Roma on Saturday. But this is not an isolated case, said Gregor Macedoni, Mayor of Novo mesto and the President of the Community of Municipalities of Slovenia: « Changes are happening in the country and the state has to answer these events. »
The mayors strongly condemned the attack on the mayor of Ribnica and adopted three decisions requiring systemic changes in resolving the Roma issue. In less than a year, the fishing attack is the second attack on the representative of the country -last year, the web was rounded off the worrying recordings of how two police officers were beaten -so that such cases can no longer be attributed as they like to do in Ljubljana and where they do not know the situation, « intolerance of mayors ». « In the Southeastern Slovenia and Posavje region, that is, in the area with 202,000 inhabitants, which is ten percent of Slovenia, we have a problem that we have to solve, » Gregor Macedoni was clear.

The mayors call the government with the first decision to allow law enforcement authorities to respond more effectively to changing conditions in society and crime and misdemeanors. The second decision calls on the government to adopt a package of legal changes related to prosecutorial and court proceedings by preventing recurrent crimes and misdemeanors of individuals.
They also urge the government to prepare legal changes in interdepartmental cooperation, which will also inform the recipients of financial social rights that crimes and misdemeanors are unacceptable. « There are gaps in the legislation here, before which the country is turning a blind eye and considered a population of about 20,000 in Slovenia, » Macedoni warned.

« We just want to achieve the same rules for everyone, including so that the majority of the Roma population that does not work will be able to live normally and integrate into the community. »

The mayors point out that it should not happen that some repeat crimes and offenses are not punished for it, as these acts are stopped in pre -trial proceedings, so that they do not even reach the court, lose themselves in court proceedings or impose probation. « The fact that the victims have become representatives of power shows that the state is not working, » said Gregor Macedoni.
« We demand that serial offenders be removed from our premises, » said Kočevje Mayor Gregor Košir, who, like other mayors, warned that in these cases it is nothing but crime: « Crime has no ethnic basis. » populations.

Pogorelc thanked his colleagues for mayors who have similar problems to Ribnica for their solidarity and support, and is disappointed with the unresponsiveness of the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister and the Ombudsman. Pogorelec’s position is clear: « I also have the right to peace and inviolability. »
Therefore, the government is required to take immediate action. This is not the case that he was attacked now, Pogorel said, but that he does not want any citizen in the country, whether he be Roma or anyone else. “Our call to the government is clear: there is no more time to play and there is no longer time to accuse mayors with racists, because tomorrow this can happen to anyone. That is why we expect immediate measures to protect all citizens, « Pogorel said. Or, as Gregor Košir said: « We just want to achieve the same rules for everyone, also so that the majority of the Roma population that does not do problems can live normally and integrate into the community. »
