« Cracking atmosphere » to the west of the week

The music festival never went south approaching impatient and excitement has begun to form in the atmosphere of Isafjardarbær.

One of the organizers of the festival says the great cohesion of states in the town when it comes to setting up the festival.

The festival runs from 18-19. April.

Almost as everyone participates

« This is very good.

Soon, the stage will start on the stage in the so -called campaign, but the shrimp processing Kampi has lent the festival’s relatives for almost ten years.

« This is a natural social project that we are watching, » says Kristján, mentioning that although a 20-30 group holds the festival, it is almost like every resident of the town is involved in the preparation in one way or another.

For example, he mentions one resident who every year uses his crane car to transport toiletries for festival guests – free and without being asked for it.

Never been sold tickets to the festival

Isn’t it also just part of the charm of this festival, this cohesion?

« Sure, I think it’s completely that way. Although I want to take credit for myself, it’s just not that way. I think people sense this – both guests and the musicians themselves – that this is a good elephant. These are people doing this with passion and nothing else. »

Kristján points out that each year, the festival’s representatives receive inquiries when ticket sales will start – despite the fact that the festival has never been sold.

« It is free at the festival and behind it stands a large group of volunteers. No one gets paid and this is not a profit -driven operation in any way.

People perceive it – that here is a real fool behind. These are just people to have fun and try to bring some entertainment into the community. « 

Ready with several scenarios in response

Eleven bands and musicians perform at the festival this year and attend the town on Tuesday and Friday long – some by car, others by flight.

Kristján says organizers are ready with several scenarios to respond to circumstances. Over the years, for example, flights have been canceled with short notice and then burns to Reykjavik to attend the musicians.

« We are always ready with such B and C plans. »

No cold when the dance takes over

However, there are not very worries at this time.

It is discussed in town that the weather will be good to the west over Easter – the sun is expected, though with a little cold season.

« If that becomes the case, then we are in complete happiness. It is hardly necessary to remind people that it is still winter – it is always cold on never went south. This is naturally just a raw industrial building at the harbor, » says Kristján, but agrees with a journalist that the cold is probably not prominent.

More than doubled

When asked, he says the mood in the town increases tremendously, though not only because of the festival. Last weekend, the Fossavatnsgangan skiing tournament was held and today the ski week began in Ísafjörður, which lasts for a whole week.

Finally, Kristján emphasizes how big it is for the town to hold the festival, but the population is expected to double over the weekend.

« Ísafjarðarbær is about four thousand people a town, but based on our figures we have received from the beginning from the Road Administration, it can be expected that it is coming, at least 4,500 people in the town. Because there are two thousand and some cars running north of Ísafjarðardjup this week. »
