The collapse of the company 123kurier revealed behind the scenes of its missile growth.
The year was 2020 and Slovakia was paralyzed by the pandemic of the new coronavirus. While part of the companies fell and counted damage, some grew. These included courier services.
It was at that time that a new player expanded in this business. 123kurier boasted of being a family company with exclusively Slovak capital. On the market he made a large drafts and very quickly began counting sales in millions of euros.
But how quickly he flew, he fell as fast. He ended up in bankruptcy and the damage he left behind is enormous, attacking the threshold of 30 million euros. Bankruptcy files also showed the despair of employees who took justice into their own hands.
Hole in the market
Eseročka 123kurier was registered in the Commercial Register on September 12, 2020. More precisely, it was created by renaming Messagerie and Igor and Miloš Melníkovci.
Miloš Melík had a majority share in the company and was also its director. In the advertising interview you get in May 2021 paid In the Forbes magazine, he explained that even though they are new on the market, they have several years of experience.
« In 2005 we started to do business, but eventually outweighed our interest in e-commerce. We went to E-commerce company specializing in the markets of Central, but especially Eastern Europe, » he explained.
In the interview he also mentioned how the project 123kurier was created: « In reflections on the development of our business I thought of transporting packages for private persons, because it was this service that was missing in our market. My vision was to create an e-shop where people and company could buy shipping at a reasonable price. »
Obviously, the idea was caught, as the Melníkovci decided to build a full courier company and invested in its infrastructure. They ran significantly in 2020, which in the next advertising Article (in 2021) The company director Martin Vránek spoke.
« In a short time, we have built professional branches that are constantly undergoing modifications to ensure the smooth processing of shipments. We invest in technology, use modern IT tools and gradually deploy other services, » he said.
Million sales
The courier company opened five centers in Slovakia, in Bratislava., ‘ NitraPrešov, Turany and Vlkanova. At the end of 2021, she decided to expand to the Czech market, where the 123kryr project launched.
« We still understand the Czech Republic and Slovakia thanks to historical interconnection as one commercial space. Therefore, the extension of our network to the Czech Republic is a logical step for us, » Milos Melnik explained in a press release.
He did not conceal with great ambitions: « If you offer a quality, reliable service, you can also compete with corporate companies. Our big advantage is that we understand perfectly the Czech -Slovak market, we are constantly developing services and diversify them. »
The company’s growth also proved financial results. Its sales increased from 3.5 million euros in 2020 to EUR 14.2 million a year later. And in the years 2022 and 2023 attacked the limit of twenty million euros, while the company reported a positive economic result.
In trouble
In the years 2021 and 2022, representatives of 123kurier appeared on various, especially smaller internet portals and, for example, advised that e-shop customers did not keep the last-minute gifts order. Then they paused.
At the end of 2023 it became clear that the company had problems in the Czech Republic. 123karyr announced the end: « Our company decided to temporarily terminate the weighing and distribution of shipments after the Czech Republic. This measure does not apply to exports such as Slovakia or Hungary.
The Slovak parent company also admitted problems. « Unfortunately, we are not yet able to provide our services in the form of regular and safe delivery of all shipments of our customers or proper collection and cash on delivery in the original mode. »
Was a month before Christmas 2023 and the news website Markíza informed that Kurier123 does not apply to its employees. The owners of the company saw this differently and in the opinion explained the background of the problems: « What we deal with harder is literally the ‘trick’ that has occurred inside our society, an attempt to take over the basic activity of our company by the competition.
