CPI report on twins concludes by the “eventual abuse of power” of the President of the Republic

The preliminary report of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the case of the twins concluded that Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, son of the President of the Republic, was the “promoter of illegality committed”, but also imputes Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa responsibility.

« The conduct of the President of the Republic is especially objectionable because it is the head of state and, as such, any request made by itself or in its name has inherently an conviction of obligation to fulfill the request, even if it is not necessarily an order, thus revealing the eventual practice of abuse of power, » reads in the report, cited by the observer.

According to the document, signed by the deputy of the arrival Cristina Rodrigues and delivered this Friday to the Assembly of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took « added steps to what he usually does » and « acted consciously and intentionally », having sent two employees of the Civil House to verify the situation of children, after receiving a request from his own son, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's knowledge of the case, the refusal of assignment of Dossier, “the constant contradictions of the child's knowledge or ignorance of the contact of the child on this subject and the circumstance of having refused to give testimony before the CPI, reinforce the idea that the President of the Republic has clear responsibilities in facilitating access to the NHS and the violation of the established rules”, reads.

Thus, although it is Nuno Rebelo de Sousa that the Inquiry Commission attributed the promotion of illegality, is Marcelo and Lacerda Sales that the political responsibility is attributed.

It was the President of the Republic and the then Secretary of State for Health that “allowed the creation and development of an irregular and abusive circuit of access to the NHS, through direct or indirect interference in that circuit,” writes the rapporteur.

« It is Lacerda Sales who executes the order for these children to enter the National Health Service, with strong evidence that was at the request of the President of the Republic, through his son, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, » says the observer.
