– We knew each other, we played against each other, we knew each other for 14-15 years. I was his first contact for his arrival in Vojnic. He contacted me at 11 in the evening in the summer and said: Dear, will we last dance, the last dance? I told him: What kind of last dance, we will still sell you from Vojnic. We laughed, I turned the numbers from the President and the Chief, it seemed like a beautiful story to everyone, to bring such a football name to Vojnic. And, unfortunately, only today we realized how big and special Nikola was and how much he meant in the world of football. We are not even aware of the size of the boyfriend and players we had in our area and the club – he began in an interview with Radio Mrežnica and added:

– I came to Vojnic yesterday (op.a. Friday), I was supposed to meet with the Chief. I saw the guys have training because it was supposed to be a match today, so we went to the stadium. After the training ended, we all sat down under the canopy, we watched Varazdin – Hajduk on Nikola’s cellphone. As he is Dinamo and Varazdin, he took a shot after Hajduk scored a goal. I wanted to give him one gift, he asked me if he could go to the game tomorrow. I told him I didn’t know if I would arrive at the game since my son had a birthday, so I asked him if he could do it today. He said: Just to look at the match a little and go. Maybe, I told him, I’m waiting for you on a toll booth in Karlovac with that gift and stop by the way when you go to Zagreb.

The hardest part he shared are the details of what exactly happened.

– At 20:04 he sent me a message that he was in Tusilovic. I was waiting for the payment, it was already 8:35 pm or 8:40 pm, I started calling him, to see where he was, if he hadn’t stopped in town with the boys somewhere. Because there was no logic to drive from Tusilovic to the toll for half an hour. I called him two or three times and didn’t get it. Because at the time, he was unfortunately passed away. A friend called me and said, « You know what happened? » So what – I asked. Nicholas died, ”he said. My legs were cut off … so as he died, I wait for the man, we heard myself. I look at messages, look at our pictures, it’s hard, we don’t know any more words to refer, there is a huge sadness.
