The Bergense Hof van Appeal ordered a new investigation in the file around the Bende van Nivelles, the RTBF reports. « A big win for the civil parties, » said lawyer Patrick Ramaël.
In June last year, the federal public prosecutor announced that the investigation into the Bende van Nivelles had ended, but earlier this year, the Bergense Court had to be returned to that. In January a new investigation was ordered into a notebook in which two brothers from Opwijk recorded the number plates of passing cars forty years ago and that may contain information about November 9, 1985, the day of the bloodiest and last robbery of the gang.
And now there is a new turn in the case. The Court of Appeal in Bergen has now ordered an investigation into the French Spoor, a slope of Jean-Pierre Adam, a retired government guard who has been investigating his own for years. According to Adam, they were two northern French brothers who orchestrated the attacks of the gang.
Patrick Ramaël, the French lawyer who represents the civil parties and who has never released the case, responds delighted to the news. « I have always believed in it, » he explains to the RTBF. « An investigating judge who systematically refused my questions for research acts is now obliged to investigate the French track. This is a victory for the civil parties and a victory for the Belgian Justice. And more victories will follow, in the interest of the civil parties, of the truth, of justice and even of the country. »
