Council of Ministers agrees with asylum plans Faber

On Friday, after a long session, the Council of Ministers agreed to the virtually unchanged asylum measures by Minister Marjolein Faber (PVV). In a press release, the cabinet speaks of « another step to the introduction of the strictest asylum policy ever ».

Faber already indicated at the start of the Council of Ministers that, apart from a technical correction, they her plans would not change. The Council of State had advised that because the laws carelessly prepared. The legal explanation of the laws is now 'supplemented', can be read in the press release.

Faber wants to introduce a two -state system, among other things, where a distinction is made between refugees and people who are protected on other grounds. The cabinet therefore hopes to lower the number of 'navigers' of people in that second group.

The cabinet is allocating 115 million euros for the introduction of the asylum laws, the vast majority for the introduction of the two -state system. Such a system is expected to ensure great pressure on the implementing organizations, such as the Immigration and Naturalization Service IND.

Support in Senate uncertain

Faber has successfully guided her asylum laws by the Council of Ministers, after Friday she faces a more complicated task. Leaning on a majority in the Lower House is not sufficient, since the coalition depends on other parties in the absence of a majority in the Senate.

On the asylum file this amounts to the assistant of right -wing parties such as the CDA and SGP. Those groups will use their senate seats in the Lower House as an asset, because only the House of Representatives has the right to amendment.

Although right -wing opposition parties are in favor of a stricter asylum policy, they have already announced that Fabers asylum measures must be 'effective'. Not insensitive to previously published advice from implementation and case law, they will almost certainly come up with change proposals. On Friday, Faber will not address possible change proposals from the opposition: « I wait quietly. »
