Corruption at an important NATO agency
The authorities confiscated documents in Luxembourg following searches in a corruption file that involves current and former employees of the NATO Agency for Support and Procurement, the Luxembourg Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday, reported Luxembourg Times.
« Within the actions of a case involving civil servants and pensioners of the NATO support and procurement agency (NSPA) that they have used their functions to enrich themselves, the Great Ducal Police, the Judicial Police Service, carried out a series of searches in the Grand Duchy, » the statement said.
An instructional judge in Luxembourg has led the operation, and the prosecutor’s office issued an indictment to allow the searches.
Simultaneous operations, coordinated by Eurojust – the EU Criminal Justice Agency – took place in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and the USA. This led to the arrest of the suspects, the statement said. None of the arrests took place in Luxembourg, a spokesman explained by telephone.
« In this context, the Luxembourg judicial authorities want to express their gratitude to the NSPA for the essential role that he played in initiating this case and for the continuous and sustained assistance he offered to the investigation, » said Luxembourg Prosecutor’s Office.
NSPA is in charge of purchase, support and support for the entire NATO. This includes the multinational purchase of complex platforms and the provision of goods and services. It has over 1,500 employees and is based in Luxembourg.
