Coronation celebrations in Gniezno shortened. Changing the date of key events
The decision to change the deadline was made to enable the participation of President Andrzej Duda at the Pope’s funeral in the Vatican. The head of state originally planned to participate in Saturday’s celebrations in Gniezno, including in a coronation concert and the unveiling ceremony of a commemorative plaque in the cathedral’s underground.
The celebrations will start earlier – schedule during changes
According to the spokeswoman for the City Hall of Gniezno, Monika Fifer, work is underway to adapt the program of the entire event to the new situation. The celebrations will last from Wednesday to Sunday, but Friday’s celebrations will be central with the participation of state, church authorities and invited guests.
Presidential Minister Wojciech Kolarski pointed out that the change of the schedule was coordinated with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the marshals of the Sejm and Senate. He also added that Andrzej Duda was the initiator of convening a joint meeting of both chambers of parliament to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of the first kings of Poland.
Gniezno is celebrating. A thousand years of statehood and faith
The celebrations in Gniezno have a special dimension, not only the anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave and his son Mieszko II Lambert, but also the 1025th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Gniezno. Polish Primate, Archbishop Wojciech Polak, invited the faithful and residents to celebrate and thanksgiving together for the heritage of faith, which the figure of Saint. Wojciech.
In a special recording, the hierarch emphasized that the coronation in 1025 was the culmination of the process of building independent statehood and an independent church organization, whose foundation was the Gniezno congress in 1000. It was then that Poland was symbolically recognized by Emperor Otto III, and Gniezno became the spiritual capital of the young kingdom.
Culture, religion and community – a rich Millennium Program
The celebrations in Gniezno include both religious and cultural events. On Friday, April 25, a TGD concert with Mateusz Ziółko will take place. On Saturday, among others, St. Wojciech, Adalbertus Christian Music Festival, and in the evening a solemn coronation concert and traditional vespers with a procession with the relics of St. Wojciech.
The culmination of the celebration will be the Sunday Eucharist in the Gniezno cathedral, which will be celebrated by the papal legate, Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz. For organizational reasons, the Holy Mass will not take place in St. Wojciech, but in the cathedral itself, where, according to historians, the coronation of Bolesław the Brave took place.
