Corn is pulling in – can get over a decimeter
In the calendar, the summer is approaching, but at the same time SMHI has gone out with yellow warnings for snowfall in Dalafjällen, parts of Jämtland, Södra Härjedalen and western Hälsingland.
– It is a rain and snowfall area that moves in over southern Norrland and Dalarna during the day. During the evening and night it can get a little more intense, says Viktor Bergman, meteorologist at SMHI.
Mainly in the Dalafjällen can There will be a lot of snow, between 5 and 10 centimeters, locally even more. However, SMHI emphasizes that it is uncertain how much will fall.
The snowfall can lead to traffic problems, with slipping and poor visibility.
– When basically no one has winter tires, it can be a problem if you try to go out on the roads, including the E45 and national highway 70, but perhaps especially on small roads in Dalafjällen, says Viktor Bergman.
He also points out that there may be a risk of falling trees.
– When there are leaves on the trees, they can become extra -heavy by the wet snow, with a little increased risk of them falling.
Is it unusual for this type of snow warnings this year?
– I would say that. Then it may not be very unnecessary that it is snowing in the mountainous regions in May, but this can be so intense and not only in the mountains but also in lower terrain, says Viktor Bergman.
Almost all the lace records from May comes from the first days of the month. On May 6, 1929, 223 cm was listed in the national border, which is a record for Norrland.
For Svealand, the record is from May 1, 1988, with 128 centimeters in Grövelsjön in Dalarna. In Götaland there is a snow depth record of 56 cm in Bäckefors in Dalsland, May 2, 1929.
The snow depth record from Norrland and Svealand comes from remains of winter snow cover, while in Götaland it is about fresh snow.
